Hungary lifts bird flu restrictions
Hungary's food safety authority NÉBIH said it has lifted all remaining restrictions related to bird flu in the country, which includes restrictions on commercial poultry shipments within the country and the European Union, Hungary Today reported.
The last confirmed bird flu case in Hungary was reported on February 2.
According to NÉBIH, local farmers must continue to keep their poultry livestock in enclosures to prevent infections from wild migratory birds, with feeding and watering to be conducted in closed spaces too. In addition, feed and litter must be stored in closed spaces.
The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) will only declare Hungary free of bird flu from May 23 if no further cases are detected. After OIE approval, Hungary can restart poultry exports to the rest of the world.
