Denmark January 09 pork exports to EU up 25 percent
Denmark exported around 564,000 pigs into the EU in January, 25 percent more than in the same period last year, said German statistical service ZMP.
The export is remarkable since the number of Danish sow is going to be lower in the first quarter of 2009 compared to the last quarter of 2008, and all together Danish pig numbers have decreased with almost 3 percent to 12.2 million.
Due to poor financial results pig farmers lower the number of pigs in their operations.
The Danish pig sector is suffering from the economic crisis, which has made exports to Eastern Europe, Russia, Japan and South Korea decline.
