China's Shanghai to start building standardized aquatic farms in 2008
China's Shanghai announced to start the construction of 30 aquatic products standardized breeding farms this year, with a total area of 1,133 hectares.
The Municipal Aquatic Product Office on March 5 said that by 2010, the total area of the standardized breeding farms will reach 8,000 ha.
An industry source said that aside from the renovation of old fishponds, the aquatic product authorities will add new varieties in the breeding farms.
China's officials have been making breakthroughs in the development and breeding technologies of a group of new varieties such as sole, Yangtze River's mullet and saury.
