Philippine province seizes 'tampered' processed meat products

The Provincial African Swine Fever Task Force (PASFTF) of Catanduanes in the Philippines discovered 'tampered' meat products from one of the largest food companies in the country on Saturday, in an attempt to smuggle the products into the province.

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Catanduanes and staff of Provincial Veterinary Office apprehended a 10-wheeler container van for quarantine inspection in compliance with an executive order recently issued by the provincial government.

It turned out later that the meat products were coming from Cavite.

During inspection, PASFTF found tons of hotdog packages 'tampered' with a sticker to make it appear that the product was made from poultry meat.

A closer inspection of the packages showed that the products were actually made from poultry meat, pork, and beef.

The confiscated products, weighing about 7,000 kg with an estimated worth of PHP700,000, were immediately burned and buried afterward at a quarry site in Simamla, Virac.
