Norway to set up new aquaculture research centre
Norwegian aquaculture scientists will be establishing a new national research centre for sea-based aquaculture technology, making it Europe's first joint large-scale research facility for developing and testing new aquaculture technology.
Scandinavia's largest independent research institute, SINTEF and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) are the two institutions involved in establishing the new research centre.
Both SINTEF and NTNU have submitted their joint plans to the European Union, which has responded by saying that such a centre is greatly needed in Europe for aquaculture research.
Their aim will be to set up an independent centre that will complement and partner with existing European research infrastructures, offering the facilities to international teams interested in developing and testing new equipment, materials and processes at sea.
