Victorias city, Philippines extends aid to swine farmers amid ASF outbreak

The city government of Victorias, located in Negros Occidental, Philippines, continues to provide aid to local swine farmers affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak through the Swine Development Programme Insurance, SunStar reported.

Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez spearheaded the distribution of financial aid to several swine raisers in the city, aiming to ease the financial burdens brought about by ASF-related losses.

The initiative follows the confirmation of two ASF cases reported by the city veterinary office, which prompted the issuance of Executive Order No. 39 Series of 2023. This order established the Swine Development Programme Insurance Fund, specifically targeting the 10% of swine previously uninsured by the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).

Out of Victorias City's swine population numbering 1,584, a total of 1,425 heads were insured under the Swine Insurance Programme of PCIC.

By extending financial assistance to affected swine raisers, the City Government of Victorias demonstrates its unwavering commitment to bolstering the resilience and sustainability of the local agricultural community, ensuring continued support for hog raisers amid challenging circumstances.
