Italy avails US$13 million for fences to control wild boar movements

As part of African swine fever (ASF) prevention efforts, Italy has made funds totaling €12 million (US$13 million) available for the construction of 116 kilometers of fences for the control of wild boar.

The fence will be positioned along local freeways between Liguria and Piedmont.

The fence network will be completed by the end of the summer and will require the intervention of 400 people including technicians and workers from Autostrade per l'Italia.

The slaughter of pigs in the infected area has started, which will affect an estimated 500 domestic pigs.
