Brazilian pork now permitted for to enter Cambodian market

The Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) recently welcomed news that Cambodia is now open to pork imports from Brazil.

The announcement of the news was made by Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. Fresh and processed pork from industries authorised by the Federal Inspection Service (SIF) of Brazil can be received in Cambodia.

According to the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, Cambodia is undergoing an intense process of urbanisation and an increase in per capita income, which influences the growth potential of meat consumption per capita. Pork consumption today is 10 kilos per person per year.

"Cambodia is an emerging hog-producing nation, but has recently been impacted by cases of African swine fever. In this context, Brazil must establish itself as a solid partner to complement the local demand, helping the food security of the Cambodian population, " said Santin.
