In the first month of this year, Chile exported a total of 55,425 tonnes of salmon, which reflects a loss of 15.6% over the same month in 2013, when 65,742 tonnes had been shipped abroad.
These exports generated returns of US$418.3 million, 40.9% more than in the same period last year (US$296.7 million).
According to a report issued by InfoTrade for Aqua, the average price in January stood at US$7.55 per kilogramme.
In January 2014, AquaChile - grouping Aguas Claras and Salmones Chiloé - was ranked in the first place among exporters, with sales of US$68 million.
In second place was Mainstream Chile, with US$56.9 million, followed by Granja Marina Tornagaleones, with shipments for US$32.6 million, Marine Harvest Chile, with US$27.5 million, and Los Fiordos with US$25.9 million.
These firms were followed by Camanchaca with shipments for US$22.3 million; Salmones Humboldt, for US$15 million; Salmones Blumar, for US$13.3 million; and Ventisqueros, for US$13 million.
In terms of volume, in January 2014 the major salmon companies were: Empresas AquaChile at 8,909 tonnes; Mainstream at 7,766 tonnes; and Granja Marina Tornagaleones at 5,330 tonnes.
