Scotland's NFU livestock board announces new chairman

The National Farmer's Union (NFU) of Scotland announced that it has elected Alistair Mackintosh chairman of the national livestock board.

Mackintosh said that Scotland's livestock sector is facing a number of challenges and it is crucial for producers to receive enough for their product to enable on-farm reinvestment and ensure a sustainable future.

He also pointed the need to look at reducing the regulatory burden that the industry is under as well as dealing with the cost sharing agenda and finding a way forward on bovine TB.

NFU is an organisation that promotes and protects the interests of the farming industry in Scotland and has approximately 10,000 members who are farmers, crofters, and others involved in Scottish agriculture.
