Canada's Exceldor acquires Grenville Poultry
Canada's Exceldor farm has acquired Grenville Poultry, a chicken processor with 250 employees an area north of Montreal.
Exceldor, based in the Quebec City area, is a co-operative that employs 950 people and processes 1.4 million chickens a week (67 million yearly) from three processing plants in Quebec.
Grenville processes about 400,000 chickens a week (9.2 million yearly) The acquisition would allow Exceldor to boost output by 40 percent. Exceldor would also be able to look at consolidating other operations in Quebec and reduce operating costs.
Rising corn prices in the US is prompting chicken companies in the region to merge in order to reduce production costs by streamlining operations.
