Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, India, sees drop in egg price due to falling consumption

Following rise in temperature before the start of the summer season in Namakkal, Tamil Nadu, India, the city's egg price reduced to ₹4.60 (US$0.055) due to a fall in consumption.
Egg exporters claimed no big impact as of now due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Namakkal houses more than 1,600 poultry farms, and 60 million to 70 million eggs per day are produced from these farms and are exported to various foreign countries, including Muscat (Oman), Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. Each day around five million to six million eggs are exported to these countries from Namakkal.
Likewise, eggs are sent to various parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Puducherry. For the noon meal scheme, eggs are sent to schools across Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, due to the rise in temperature for the past two weeks across the state, egg consumption has reduced, which impacted the price. The procurement price of eggs, which was more than ₹5 (US$0.060) for the past few months, reduced to ₹4.80 (US$0.058) on February 27 and on March 1, the price reduced to ₹4.60 (US$0.055).
National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC), Namakkal zone, treasurer Sundar Rajan said that at present 60 million eggs are produced in Namakkal per day. Usually during the summer season, egg consumption will reduce, especially in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Like in the Namakkal zone, sales are reduced in other egg zones in the country.
"So, we have to reduce the price of eggs. Bird flu has not been reported in Tamil Nadu," Rajan said. "So, eggs are sent to all places as usual from Namakkal. We expect the price will not reduce further. Depending upon the consumption, the price will be fixed."
Tamil Nadu Poultry Farmers' Association president K. Singaraj said five million to six million eggs per day are exported to foreign countries through containers. Due to the war in Iran, egg export might be affected for one or two days.
As of now there were no issues in exporting eggs to Arab countries and containers got clearance to unload the eggs.
"We hope the war will end soon, as information is coming that talks are going on to end the war," Singaraj added.
