Mad cow case in Canada likely caused by contaminated feed
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said on Mar 3 that Canada's latest case of mad cow disease in January was probably caused by contaminated feed.
CFIA came to the conclusion after its investigation traced two of the affected animal's offspring and 156 cattle born on the same farm within 12 months before and after its birth.
The agency also said the latest case involved just a single cow and no more cases of mad cow has been detected.
While no definitive origin of contamination was confirmed by the agency, CFIA believes that the animal's feed was contaminated during its manufacture, transport or storage.
