The Philippines temporarily bans poultry imports from Russia due to bird flu

The Philippines' Department of Agriculture ordered a temporary ban on domesticated and wild birds from Russia following highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu outbreaks there, Manila Times reported.

William Dar, the Philippines' Agriculture Secretary, said in a Memorandum Order that the ban was needed to protect the domestic poultry population.

Russian poultry imports will be permitted if it has obtained sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) import clearances issued before MO 17, but only if the frozen imported poultry meat has a slaughter or process date of 21 days.
