African swine fever detected among piglets in Yunnan, China
China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has confirmed an African swine fever (ASF) outbreak among piglets illegally transported through Funing country, Yunnan province, Reuters reported.
Six of the 36 transported swine died, while six more were detected with the virus.
China has reported only a few disease outbreaks on farms, but some analysts have estimated that a fifth of swine breeding herds north of the country have been affected by livestock diseases over the winter.
The average piglet prices in China are RMB 91 (~US$14; RMB 1 = US$0.15) per kg, up 11% compared to 2020.
