Argentina first in world to certify carbon-negative beef

Argentina has emerged as the first country in the world to certify carbon-negative beef.
Key to this success is Argentina's implementation of silvopastoral systems, an agricultural approach that synergistically integrates trees, pasture and livestock. This method not only enhances the welfare of the animals but also significantly boosts the carbon absorption capabilities of grazing lands, turning them into vital carbon sinks.
Furthermore, the introduction of specific feed additives, including variants of seaweed, plays a part in drastically cutting down methane emissions produced during digestion, without affecting the overall productivity of the cattle.
That approach, coupled with the exploration of gene-editing techniques and vaccines aimed at altering the digestive processes of livestock, marks a step forward for Argentina to reduce the environmental footprint of beef production.
