Hong Kong resumes German poultry import

The Centre for Food Safety of Hong Kong Monday (Mar 2) announced that the processing of applications for importing poultry and poultry products from Germany except Saschen Province would resume with immediate effect.

The confirmation of an outbreak of the highly pathogenic bird flu virus on a poultry farm in Saschen in October last year had led to the centre suspending the processing of applications from Germany.

A spokesman for the centre said they decided to resume processing applications as Germany had implemented the necessary control measures and there are no other reported cases of bird flu.

He added that the centre is monitoring the situation in Saschen and Hong Kong will not import poultry products from the province for the time being.
