China's seafood export exceeds US$10 billion in 2008
The number one farm produce exported by China is seafood with total exports valued at US$10.6 billion in 2008.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, seafood products made up 26.2 percent of China's farm exports. China exported nearly three million tonnes of seafood last year with Japan being the country's largest overseas market.
Ministry officials said 2009 will be a tough year for the industry due to the global economic downturn. The ministry is planning to implement measures to ensure stable exports but no details have been released yet.
