Germany confirms another case of African swine fever

German authorities have confirmed another case of African swine fever (ASF) in a swine farm located in east Germany, Brandenburg state, Yahoo! News reported.

All 11 animals at the small farm were culled as a precaution, the authorities said.

China and other major pork buyers imposed a ban on German pork imports in September 2020 after ASF was detected among wild boars.

Analysts said ASF detected in farms will make it difficult for Germany to lift those export bans.

ASF was thought to have entered Germany via wild boar from Poland, particularly in the eastern states of Brandenburg and Saxony.

The Brandenburg state health ministry said 3,007 cases of ASF in wild boar have now been confirmed in the state. The cause of the most recent outbreak is being investigated.

By controlling the wild boar population, the German government has been attempting to contain and eradicate ASF in the east. However, the abundance of wild boar in the nation has made containment challenging.
