Only one company is permitted to import eggs from India into Malaysia
Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Malaysia's Agriculture and Food Security Minister, said only one company was permitted to import eggs from India into Malaysia to alleviate the supply shortage last year, The Star reported.
He said the government awarded the special permit to the company in December 2022, and the contract will end in June 2023.
The permit was awarded based on the company's application and proposal, based on their experience in importing eggs from India to Qatar to meet the demand for the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar.
The ministry has agreed to grant special import approval for a period of six months beginning in December 2022 because of the company's capacity to deliver eggs quickly, he said.
