New suspected bird flu case under investigation in South Korea, total caseload at 102

 


South Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said it is currently investigating a new suspected highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu case at an egg farm in Pocheon, 46 km north of Seoul, with the confirmed total caseload remaining at 102, Yonhap News Agency reported.

 

Bird flu cases traced to wild birds have also increased, now at 208 according to minuistry data.

 

28.8 million poultry have been culled by South Korean authorities. Authorities only cull birds within 1 km from infected farms following new guidelines from mid-February. Previously birds were culled within 3 km radius.

 

The average price of eggs in South Korea has increased 47.9% on-year over the past week, while chicken meat prices were up 14.5% over the period.
