Russia's 2012 poultry production reaches 3.36 million tonnes

Over the last few years the Russian poultry industry has been developing actively with its production more than doubled in the last five years, reaching a record 3.36 million tonnes in 2012.

This triggered a rise in compound feed production and consequently increased the country's need for soy and processed soy products.

Therefore, soy and soymeal imports have expanded over the last years. In addition, an active construction of soy-processing facilities has begun. Taking into account that crushers prefer domestic raw material to imported one, farmers started to boost soy production.

As a result, Russia's soy output reached a record 1.8 million tonnes in 2012, while soy and soymeal imports fell for the first time in a few years. In particular, soy meal imports decreased by 25% compared to the same period of the previous season and soy imports decreased by 10%.
