Alabama, US senate backs legislation to ban production of cultured animal cells

The senate of Alabama, the United States, has unanimously approved legislation that would prohibit the production, sale or distribution of food products produced from cultured animal cells within the state.
The bill would also provide criminal and administrative penalties for violations of the prohibition.
The bill next goes to a House committee for consideration. If signed into law, the legislation would be effective October 1, 2024.
