Cargill donates US$500,000 to new University of Idaho research hub

Cargill has announced it will donate US$500,000 towards the University of Idaho's new research hub, the Idaho Centre for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (CAFE), Big Country News reported.

The biggest research hub in the US will be home to projects by dairy sustainability scientists and innovators for the benefit of dairy farmers in Idaho state and across the country.

To help dairy farmers in the Western region find solutions for years to come, researchers at CAFE will look at the sustainability of the dairy farming value chain from feed to milk and beyond. Researchers will also study non-milk revenue sources for farmers from developing bio-based product and carbon credit markets.

When completed, the US$22.5 million multiphase project will be able to milk its first cows by the end of 2024 and house 2,000 cattle.

Julie Abrahamzon, commercial director for Cargill's animal nutrition business in North America, said supporting the next generation of agriculture sustainability experts and the dairy farmers who will benefit from their advancements is important to Cargill and the dairy sector's future.
