Spain's live pig imports from EU at 2,769,850 head in 2020

Spain's live pig imports from the European Union totaled 2,769,850 head in 2020, a 41.6% increase compared to 2019 and +114% compared to the previous four-year average.

As for imports of breeding animals, Spain imported 128,927 head last year. The number of finishing pigs imported totaled 1,779,097 animals, coming mainly from the Netherlands (75%), Portugal (15%), and Denmark (7%).

Regarding pigs for slaughter, Spain imported a total of 861,826 animals, with the main countries of origin being France (37%), Portugal (31%) and the Netherlands (13%).
