Taiwan's Yuh Yow Fisheries seeks Samoa fish processing site

Yuh Yow Fisheries, a Taiwanese firm, has planned to establish a fish processing plant in Samoa.

Samoa's agriculture and fisheries minister, Le Mamea Ropati, has confirmed to the Samoa Observer that the Yuh Yow Fisheries company is seeking approval to use sheds at Matautu wharf for the project.

He says the company is already using the wharf as a hub for its vessels in the region.

Every two months, it has a mother ship that comes to Apia to collect fish brought in by its smaller boats.

Le Mamea says the company wants to set up a permanent fish collecting facility to speed up the turn-around time for its fishing boats.

He says the station could eventually turn into a fish processing plant.
