Two US counties top Iowa's 2011 corn yields
According to USDA statistics, Bremer and Webster were the only two Iowa counties with more than 190 bushels per acre yields in 2011.
Bremer topped the state with a yield of 196.5 bushels per acre for corn, an improvement of 19 bushels per acre over 2010. Webster's 190.6 bushels per acre was up from 168.4 bushels per acre the previous year.
Iowa counties with yields above 185 bushels per acre were Clay (185.4), Lyon (185.4) O'Brien (185.1) Butler (186.7) Hancock (189.7) Kossuth (185.5) Wright (189.9) Black Hawk (186.1) Buchanan (187), Chickasaw (188.8), Clayton (186.8), Delaware (186.5) Dubuque (185.1) Fayette (186.6) Howard (185.8), Winneshiek (186.2), Hardin, 186.7), Cedar (184.9).
Iowa's statewide corn yield in 2011 was 172 bushels per acre, up from 165 bushels per acre in 2010. Iowa was the only state able to raise its per bushel corn yield last year over 2010.
For soy, Scott (62.8 bushels per acre), Cedar (61.2 bushels) and Clinton (60.5 bushels) topped 60 bushels per acre in 2011.
Iowa counties with soy yields above 55 bushels per acre included Clayton (57.9), Delaware (56.4), Dubuque (57.9), Fayette (56.7), Grundy (58.6), Hardin (55.5), Marshall (55.9), Tama (56.8), Benton (56.2), Jackson, 55.6), Jones (59.3) Linn (56) Muscatine (55.6).
As usual, the top producing counties in Iowa were north of I-80. Counties under 120 bushels per acre yields in 2011 were Davis, (978) Van Buren (100.9 bushels per acre), Lee, (105.2), Jefferson (112.4), Ringgold, (118.7), Monroe (112.5), Lucas (114.9) and Clarke (107.7).
In soy production counties below 40 bushels per acre were Lee (39.8), Davis, (32.1) Page, (37.1), Taylor, (37.8).
