Ukraine's winter crops sowings face good condition

 

 

As of February 23, Ukraine's winter crops sowings are in good and satisfactory conditions throughout 66.2% of the general areas (66% as of February 16), stated Ukraine's Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

 

According to information of the Ministry, winter grain sowings in Ukraine faced good conditions throughout 1.79 million ha, or 25.4% of the general sowing areas. Winter crops throughout 2.87 million ha of the sowings, or 40.8%, were in satisfactory condition. Nearly 33.8% of the areas, or 2.38 million ha, showed weak and thinned condition.

 

Agrarians received growing sprouts throughout 84% of the general areas of 8.39 million ha planted with winter crops.

 

As of the reporting date, 32.6% of winter rapeseed sowings showed good condition (241,000 ha), 32.4% - satisfactory (252,000 ha), 33.9% - weak and thinned (252,000 ha).

 

As a reminder, according to Nikolai Prysiazhnyuk, Minister of Agrarian Policy, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy increased the forecast for resowing of winter crops areas in 2012 by 0.5- 1 million ha, to the level of 3.5 million ha. However, it will be possible to assess the condition of winter crops areas and the preliminary damage after the increase of air temperature only.

 

According to the State Statics Service, Ukraine sowed winter crops for grain and green fodder, including rapeseed, throughout 9.4 million ha for the harvest of 2012, up 1.9% compared to the harvest in 2011. The sowing areas under winter grains increased by 3.8% to the level of 8.4 million ha.
