As Ukraine plans to increase its eggs and meat production in 2012, its milk production in January grew by 4% to 591.2 thousand tonnes compared with the same period in 2011, Deputy Minister of Agricultural Policy and Food Oleksandr Sen told a press conference in Kyiv.
"In 2011, the main task of the Ministry of Agricultural Policy and Food of Ukraine was to stabilise the situation at agricultural enterprises engaged in the meat and dairy industry. And we have done this, since last year milk production was about 11 million tonnes. There was also stable production of meat and eggs," the deputy minister informed.
The current year, he said, should be a period of active development of dairy farming, for which the state budget has already provided appropriate grants. Thus, the production of meat and dairy products should increase.
"We believe it is necessary to increase production by at least 2-3%. However, this is not the limit, as we will work to increase this figure. The measures taken previously have already yielded their result, since in January 2012 the production of milk has increased by more than 4% over the same period last year," Sen concluded.
