France's pig slaughtering dropped by 7.8% in December 2023

 
 

 

The number of pigs slaughtered in France in December 2023 fell sharply year-on-year by 7.8%, remaining below the average slaughtering for the 2018-2022 period (-6.5%).

 

At 94.2 kg/carcass on average, the weight of slaughter pigs was stable year-on-year, rising by 0.1%.

 

Last year, pig slaughtering was down by 4.8% year-on-year — and by 6.2% compared with the five-year average — reflecting the decline in pig numbers on farms.
