Subsidy for chicken eggs to continue in Malaysia until June 2023

Malaysia's Agriculture and Food Security Ministry said the subsidy for chicken eggs in the country will continue until June 2023, involving a total cost of MYR 1.28 billion (~US$285 million; MYR 1 = US$0.22), Bernama reported.

The ministry said the Malaysian Cabinet reached an agreement at a meeting on February 17 to continue the subsidy.

The ministry said that this decision is being taken to ensure that the country's supply of chicken eggs remains stable, while the study on the operation and administration of targeted subsidies can be completed soon.

The ministry also said that once the supply in the nation stabilises, the necessity of importing chicken eggs from abroad would also be reviewed.

The move to import chicken eggs from outside sources was described as a temporary measure to guarantee that the nation's supply would remain stable.

The ministry said that it continuously assesses the availability of chicken eggs on the market and will continue to explore different options to guarantee a steady supply across the nation.
