Increased production costs, lower demand from China to impact Spain's expansion of pork production

Higher production costs, reduced demand from China and a drop in domestic pork consumption could limit the expansion of Spain's pork production this year.

According to a report by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Spanish pork production may remain flat at five million tonnes in 2022.

Future expansions in pork production will be limited to allow farms to adapt to meet new EU requirements under the Green Deal strategy.

The USDA also expected Spain's breeding sow population to remain flat.
