Bangladesh to promote development of smart livestock farming

The Bangladeshi government aims to promote the development of smart livestock farming in the country, through the creation of sustainable farms and the use of technology to boost meat output, The Business Standard reported.
Stakeholders have stated that the implementation of numerous programmes across the nation will be necessary to advance smart livestock farming. New techniques for raising cattle and chickens are part of these new plans.
In an effort to accomplish these objectives, Bangladesh's Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock launched the Livestock Services Week and Exhibition 2023 nationwide under the slogan "Smart Livestock Smart Bangladesh" which will run from until March 1.
SM Rezaul Karim, Bangladesh's Fisheries and Livestock Minister, said the production of disease-free livestock is a priority, as well as establishing mobile clinics for the development of livestock.
Officials in charge of livestock said that farmers all over the nation will receive training to adapt new methods and tools for developing smart livestock farming.
Dr Md Reajul Huq, director (admin) of Bangladesh's Department of Livestock Services (DLS), said local farmers will be encouraged to optimally use land, such as for producing quality grass for cattle. This will reduce dependence on grains.
As for poultry, he said farm temperatures will be monitored using sensors to reduce the risk of chicken diseases.
Md Mahabub Hassan, general secretary of the World Poultry Science Association, Bangladesh division, said they are using apps to calculate the country's monthly demand for chicken and eggs, with data collected every day.
Minister SM Rezaul Karim also said the Bangladeshi government will sell meat, milk, and eggs through mobile sale centres to stop prices from increasing during the Ramadan month.
