Canada to see increase in soy plantation for next five years

 

 

Soy area in western Canada could increase over the next four to five years, with about four million acres expected to be used for the crop, according to Dale Heide, president of Manitoba soyabean processor Delmar Commodities.

 

Soy production in Manitoba has grown steadily over the past decade, with area in 2013 forecast at one million to 1.2 million acres, said Mr Heide. In neighbouring Saskatchewan, soy are newer to the scene, with about 60,000 acres seeded in 2012 and expectations for 90,000 in 2013, he added.
