Truly Irish to push for sustainable agriculture in Europe

The development of a €1.68 million (US$2.2 million) EU funded group called 'Thrive Rite' was buoyed by Truly Irish Country Foods' recent drive towards more sustainable agriculture in Europe.

The project is driven by SMEs including Truly Irish and several cutting-edge research groups within the EU who are led by an Irish Biotechnology company, BioAtlantis Ltd. This research includes the study of seaweed extract, laminaria which has gained much popularity over the years for its proven health benefits.

The Truly Irish brand was formed by 85 pig farmers in 2009 and has since established itself as the third biggest breakfast meat brand in Ireland. Supporting over 8,000 Irish jobs and helping to safeguard the Irish pig industry, Truly Irish now have listings with Dunnes, Tesco, SuperValu and Superquinn with award winning products including 82% pork sausages, gluten free sausages, rashers, traditional black and white pudding, bacon joints, gammon steaks and ham fillets. Truly Irish have raised the profile of Irish pork and bacon and all their products are DNA traceable.

Truly Irish have always been noted and awarded for their innovativeness and it is no surprise that they are behind this new initiative. It is expected that the project will yield results within two years and pave the way for a new generation of products which will boost the immune system of the consumer.

Upon completion of these trials, Truly Irish will have the exclusivity to use this natural ingredient in feedstuffs for their pigs, therefore, all their products will carry this benefit. There is no other retail brand undertaking this ground breaking technology and it is a testament to Truly Irish who continuously fight for ways to ensure a high quality and natural product are delivered to the consumer.
