Finland worried about cheap Swedish pork imports

The meat sector in Finland is worried about the imports of cheap Swedish pork into the market.

The devaluation of the Swedish krona and the decrease in producer prices has increased the competitiveness of Swedish meat.

Traditionally, meat imports to Finland from Sweden have been small, but customs statistics show that imports started to increase at the end of 2008.

According to Atria Finland managing director Juha Gröhn, Swedish meat has been on sale in Finland clearly more than before.

Gröhn sees Swedish meat as a real threat, and it will certainly not ease the difficult situation already in the Finnish market.

According to HKScan, the company's Finnish business unit HK Ruokatalo imported some Swedish beef to Finland in 2008, while in 2009 no raw meat has been imported.
