H5N8 bird flu detected in Afghanistan

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) said Afghanistan has confirmed an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu on a poultry farm in Herat province, Reuters reported.

794 birds were killed by the virus on the farm at Herat province, which borders Iran. The remaining 22,000 birds were culled to prevent the spread of the virus.
