China grain output can rise by 57.5 million tonnes by 2020
China has the potential to increase its annual grain output by 57.5 million tonnes by 2020 the Farmers' Daily said Thursday (February 26) citing a research report from the Ministry of Agriculture.
Of the total increase, soy output could rise by 5 million tonnes, corn output by 27.5 million tonnes, wheat output by 10 million tonnes and rice output by 15 million tonnes, the daily said.
The research it cited was based on a field study by the ministry.
China's grain output in 2008 rose 5.4 percent on year to 528.5 million tonnes.
