Ukraine to export more soybean and rapeseed

Export of soybeans from Ukraine may total about 400,000 tonnes in the current marketing year (September 2006-August 2007) against 226,000 tonnes in the previous one, said Stepan Kapshuk, General Director of the Association "Ukroilyaprom".

According to the forecasts of Ukroliyaprom Ukraine, may increase rapeseed export to 500,000 tonnes in the current year against 172,700 tonnes in the marketing year (MY) of 2005-2006.

According to Kapshuk, for five months of MY 2006-2007, Ukraine has already exported about 470,000 tonnes of rapeseed and 300,000 tonnes of soy. He noted the rise in export of these crops is connected with increase in production last year as well as its surge in demand on world markets.

At the same time, the general director expressed concern about low sales of domestic soymeal after soy crushing. Kapshuk said demand for soymeal by poultry raisers has been slow recently, resulting to difficulties in sales for producers.

In 2005-200606 MY, Ukraine exported 226,000 tonnes of soy (harvest totalled 616,000 tonnes) and 182,700 tonnes of rape (284,700 tonnes).
