Khanh Hoa, Vietnam, approves livestock disease prevention plan for 2026

The Provincial People's Committee of Khanh Hoa, Vietnam, has approved its 2026 Disease Prevention Plan for livestock, poultry, and aquaculture.

With a budget of US$346,150, the plan emphasises synchronised vaccination campaigns and pathogen surveillance across the region. By combining prevention and monitoring, officials aim to reduce risks before outbreaks occur.

The 2026 strategy prioritises a prevention-first approach, centering on early detection and immunisation:

    - Primary vaccination phases: Scheduled for March-May and September-November;

    - Mandatory vaccines include foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), avian influenza, lumpy skin disease (LSD), and rabies;

    - Coverage target: Minimum 80% immunisation rate of the total herd/flock;

    - Active surveillance: Monitoring extends beyond terrestrial livestock to include aquaculture (shrimp, marine fish, mollusks) for early risk warnings;

    - Disinfection: Two large-scale sanitation campaigns will target farming and slaughtering facilities;

    - Budget priorities and institutional responsibilities.

The total provincial budget of US$346,150 is specifically allocated to secure resources for key activities:

    - Vaccine procurement: Over US$207,700

    - Disinfectants and chemicals: US$48,000

    - Disease surveillance: US$45,000
