Corn production in Western Visayas, Philippines, sees 11.9% rise in volume last year

 

 

 

Western Visayas, the Philippines, posted an estimated total corn production of 201,859 metric tonnes in 2025, up 11.9% from 180,339 metric tonnes in 2024, according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority.

 

The increase reflects stronger performance across key producing provinces in the region, which is among the country's major corn-growing areas and a significant source of yellow corn for feed production.

 

Data showed that the third quarter recorded the highest growth rate at 29.8%, with production rising to 87,923 metric tonnes from 67,729 metric tonnes in the same period in 2024.

 

Iloilo led the region's corn production, accounting for 54.1% or 109,166 metric tonnes of the total output.

 

Capiz followed with 40.4% or 81,512 metric tonnes, while Antique contributed 4.5% or 9,077 metric tonnes.

 

The remaining provinces, Aklan and Guimaras, each accounted for about 0.5% of the regional output.

 

In terms of area harvested, Iloilo posted the largest share at 55.1%, equivalent to 24,710 hectares.

 

Capiz followed with 37.7% or 16,921 hectares, while Antique recorded 5.1% or 2,279 hectares.

 

Guimaras contributed 1.2% or 536 hectares, while Aklan accounted for less than 1% of the total harvested area.

 

By corn type, white corn production increased by 25.3% to 8,327 metric tonnes from 6,645 metric tonnes in 2024.

 

Yellow corn production grew by 11.4 % to 193,532 metric tonnes from 173,694 metric tonnes in the previous year.

 

The harvested area for yellow corn expanded by 11.6 % to 41,618 hectares in 2025.

 

White corn area also increased by 14 % to 3,220 hectares.

 

Overall, the region recorded a total of 44,838 hectares of harvested corn area in 2025, up 11.8 % from 40,118 hectares in 2024.

  

The third quarter also posted the strongest growth in harvested area at 37.8 %, increasing to 19,636 hectares from 14,247 hectares in the same quarter last year.
