66,000 birds to be culled at two bird flu outbreaks in Bulgaria
Authorities from Bulgaria's food safety agency said there are two new H5N8 bird flu outbreaks south of the country, reported Reuters.
The first outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N8 bird flu was discovered at a farm in Trilistnik, near Plovdiv city. All 55,000 egg laying hens at the farm will be culled.
The other outbreak was found at a duck farm in Padarsko, also near Plovdiv city. All 11,000 ducks at the farm will be culled as well, according to the agency.
The agency has imposed a 3 km protection zone around both farms, with a movement restriction on domestic, wild and other birds within the zone. In addition, sales of eggs and poultry in the area has been banned.
