Argentina January Beef Exports Up 19.7%

Argentine fresh beef exports in January rose to 16,610 tonnes, 19.7% higher than same period in 2003.

Israel became the largest export destination (3,538 tonnes) followed by Algeria (3,268 tonnes) then Germany (2,423 tonnes).

The value of these beef exports rose 32% to US$42.4 million.  Not surprisingly, the most valuable export destination was Germany (US$13.4 million) - Argentina's largest market for high value Hilton beef.

Argentina's export performance is expected to gather momentum as markets accept its FMD sanitary situation.  Tunisia and Morocco have announced that they will accept fresh meat from Argentina.  Furthermore, South Africa will accept meat from areas not affected by FMD in the latest outbreak.
