Vietnam's shrimp, tra fish exports to hit new growth
The 2011 export value of Vietnam's shrimp and tra fish is expected to reach new growth rate, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
In the first half of January this year, Vietnam exported 1,970 tonnes of white leg shrimps, worth US$15 million, 40% higher in volume and 64% in value compared to the same period in 2010.
The export of common tiger prawn, which holds 64% of the total export turnover of shrimps, reached 4,100 tonnes, worth US$42 million, or an on-year growth of 53.4% in volume and 67% in value.
With the average price of US$9.17 per kilogramme, an on-year growth of 14%, the export turnover of shrimps remains highest in the country's export turnover of aquatic products.
In the recent years, EU is Vietnam's largest tra fish importer, accounting for 36% of the country's total export turnover of this kind of fish, followed by the US, Mexico and Russia.
