Ukraine grain exports reach 15.2 million tonnes
                                 


Ukraine has so far exported a record 15.2 million tonnes of grain in the 2008-09 season, a minister said Friday (Feb 20).

 

Agriculture Minister Yuri Melnyk said the volume included 7.793 million tonnes of wheat, 5.1 million tonnes of barley, 2.242 million tonnes of corn, and 70,000 tonnes of other cereals.

 

So far in February, Ukraine has also exported nearly 1 million tonnes of grain, Melnyk said, adding that monthly grain export rate is about 1.5 million to 1.8 million tonnes.

 

Ukraine harvested 53.3 million tonnes of grain in 2008 compared with 29.3 million the previous year.
