Russia Bans Texas Poultry On Bird Flu Fears

Russia has banned all poultry imports from the U.S. state of Texas after avian influenza was discovered there, an agriculture ministry official said on Friday.
The official said the ban will last until all consequences of the disease are dealt with as long as there are no more cases.
The ban is to take place with immediate effect.
Russia had previously banned imports from the U.S. state of Delaware after bird flu was discovered there. Russia is the largest U.S. poultry export market, importing about $600 million worth of U.S. poultry a year.
Texas Department of Agriculture officials couldn't be immediately reached for comment.
