Egypt releases 199,000 tonnes of corn and soybeans for poultry feed
Al-Sayyed Al Qusseir, Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, said the country has released 199,000 tonnes of corn and soybeans required for poultry fodder worth US$96 million, in cooperation with the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), Egypt Today reported.
The minister said that the quantity of corn and soybeans released between January 26 to February 9 included 156,000 tonnes of corn valued at US$56 million, 43,000 tonnes of soybeans valued at US$32 million, and feed additives valued at US$8 million.
Egypt has been experiencing a nationwide feed shortage since October last year, which has forced farmers to cull chicks.
Mostafa Madbouli, Egypt's Prime Minister, announced that a cooperation will be established with the CBE to expedite the release of the biggest amount of feed possible to support the poultry industry.
