Saudi meat firm Tanmiah to enter plant-based protein market

Saudi-based Tanmiah Food Company, one of the major meat firms in the Gulf region, is looking to enter the plant-based protein market, Gulf News reported.

Zulfiqur Hamadani, Tanmiah CEO, said there is a market for plant-based protein in the UAE, Bahrain, and Qatar.

The company operates two processing plants in Saudi Arabia and another in the UAE, producing chicken and beef burger patties and nuggets. The company is set to double its capacity to 10,000-12,000 metric tonnes annually, as is a key supplier to restaurants such as Burger King and McDonald's.

The CEO said the plant-based protein products could be produced at the current Dubai Industrial City factory, or made in Saudi Arabia and exported.

He said the UAE and Dubai are ideal test markets for healthier plant-based products.

The company is also expanding into a full service food company, having acquired the master franchise role for US fried chicken restaurant brand Popeyes for the MENA territory.
