Hong Kong discovers COVID-19 in imported beef and pork packaging
Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety (CFS) said they discovered COVID-19 in samples from imported frozen beef packaging from Brazil and frozen pork packaging from Poland, Reuters reported.
CFS took 36 samples for testing from a batch of 1,100 cartons of frozen beef imported from Brazil via sea. One outer packaging and two inner packaging samples tested positive for COVID-19.
CFS also took 12 samples from a batch of 300 cartons of frozen pork skin imported from Brazil via sea. One inner packaging sample tested positive for COVID-19.
The importers have been ordered by CFS to dispose the beef and pork skin from the same imported batches.
Hong Kong has previously detected COVID-19 on pomfret fish packaging in August 2021 and cuttlefish packaging in November 2021.
Hong Kong has enforced a "zero COVID-19" strategy similar to mainland China, which aims to eliminate all outbreaks at all costs.
