Canada sees 4.9% rise in canola exports during Jan-Dec 2012
Canada's canola exports have reached 8.29 million tonnes in January-December 2012, a rise of 4.9% compared to 7.9 million tonnes in 2011.
The export increase was driven mainly by strong demand from China and Mexico. China more than doubled its purchases of Canadian canola with imports reaching three million tonnes in 2012, up 107% compared to 1.46 million tonnes purchased in 2011. Mexico also stepped up imports to 1.5 million tonnes in 2012, up 4% from 1.44 million tonnes in 2011.
